In 2008, a few people in Mosaic Church, Leeds started to feel an increased passion for the same thing - a desire to see people saved and communities transformed. They moved into Holbeck - the most deprived area in Leeds, just south of the city centre.
They began by getting to know their neighbours and supporting and getting behind positive things already happening there.
They ran a carol service in the community centre, which goes from strength to strength and is now linked to a local authority Christmas Light Switch On and started 'mission groups' aimed at reaching out to different people within the community. These include vulnerable people, youngsters, foodbank, ESOL.
Only after 7 years did they feel the people they were reaching out to wanted more, so they started a monthly 'church' service which gathers many who are not yet Christians.
They are in it for the long haul and so their approach is long, slow and organic. They don't just count numbers of attendees - the numbers they are more interested in are how many meals they've shared with people, how many have heard the name of Jesus for the first time, been prayed for, been loved, been smiled at, been included - that is what they are about.
