Zero Gravity
Joe Seddon grew up in West Yorkshire with his mum and his younger siblings. Coming from a low-income background, he defied the odds to make it to Oxford University. Seeing how tricky that journey could be, he left uni with a clear mission - to start a company that could truly level the playing field, using the power of tech to scale opportunity across the UK.
That company is Zero Gravity.
Talent is spread evenly, but opportunity is not. Zero Gravity is changing that by offering totally free support to state school students. Once a student makes it to uni, they can pay their success forward by mentoring someone else in their shoes. Their services are free so that students can focus on their future, not their finances.
The Zero Gravity students selected for their accelerators come from backgrounds and areas where reaching a top university is more of a challenge than an inevitability. They talent-spot the top 15% of high-performing students from across all of the UK, from the bottom 40% of social advantage. They reach them while they're at school, and power them to reach top universities.
They’ll connect a student with a mentor based on the student's university ambitions. The mentor also comes from a state school background. Just one hour a week of video calling can turn talent into a top university offer. According to UCAS, their members are twice as likely to achieve top university places.
Could you become a mentor? When you take one hour a week to power a student into a uni, Zero Gravity help power you into a top career with access to a community and careers masterclasses. Or, if you represent a business, why not become a corporate sponsor and connect with their community of top-performing, socially mobile students to help your talent pipeline.
Launched in 2020, Zero Gravity has already delivered over 20,000 mentoring hours to students across all of the UK. 71% of their members averaged AAA in their A-Levels. Over 3000+ members have received offers from Russell Group unis, including 400+ Oxbridge offers.
