Hearing 246Hearing God at work

From a podcast by Heaven in Business

What if you could hear God's voice guiding you in your work, your decisions, and even your toughest challenges?

Imagine navigating your business or career with clarity, peace, and confidence, knowing you’re aligned with divine wisdom. This isn’t just a lofty idea - it’s a reality. In a recent conversation between Os Hillman of Marketplace Leaders and Andy Mason, the founder of Heaven in Business, they explored how to discern God’s voice and make it part of your everyday life. Here is one story from their conversation to encourage you.

Jesus says in John 10, "My sheep hear my voice." It's not optional. It's truth. So the issue is not that we don't hear God. It's that we don't realize we're hearing God. No one's actually trained us. Here's a story about Kevin:

Kevin was a devout atheist. Can a devout atheist hear the voice of God? He owned a staffing company in Southern California. He had inherited it from his father. It was losing money, and over a period of time, there's nothing like pain to pressure you into actually aligning your life.

So in that process, in the pain and the adversity, his wife became a Christian, and she began to pray for him as well. And she would say, "Kevin, why don't you listen to the voice?" Now I'm not sure why she said that, but after a period of time, Kevin said, just to stop my wife nagging, "Okay."

From that moment, he would start to hear a voice in his head, day by day, telling him what to do, like literally, "Fire this client.. Change this employee.. Do this thing differently." ,As he followed the voice in his head, the business started to go from loss to gradually making money, to doing well.

During that time, he did not know the voice was the voice of God. He just assumed this voice sounds like me, but it's better ideas than I would come up with. But when I follow the ideas, they work. So he would continue like this.

Then it came to a date where it was his wife's birthday, and he says to her, "What do you want to do for your birthday?" She said, "I'd love to go to Bethel Church in Northern California. I've heard about it and want to experience it. Would you come with me?" He says, "No." The voice in his head says, "You're going."

He finds himself in Reading, California at Bethel Church. And if anyone's been there, there's 800-900 people in the sanctuary on a Sunday, and there's a period up front during the worship. His wife says, "I'm going up the front. Do you want to come?" He says, "No." The voice says, "You're going."

He finds himself, an atheist, at the front of Bethel Church in Reading, California, and he hears the voice say, "Lift your hands." Kevin says, "No." Second time, "Lift your hands." Kevin says, "No." Third time, the voice says, "Lift your hands." So Kevin lifts his hands, and at the moment that he lifts his hands, it's like light bulb. He realises who the voice is. He continued to follow the voice of God, and continues to do that and train people today. His business continues to navigate that as he listens to the voice of God.

The biggest question is, if an atheist, a devout atheist, can hear the voice of God, and you're a follower of Jesus, you've given your life to follow Him, and your desire is to please Him, how much more so would you hear His voice?

Andy and Os go on to discuss keys to hearing God. For example, through the Bible, questions to ask - does it release life, does it carry peace, is it impossible to ignore, seeking wise counsellors, different ways - dreams, visions, etc.
