Online - Strength in Weakness?
‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’ – 2 Corinthians 12:9
Sounds good, right? But what does it really mean for us when we’re exhausted – particularly after the pandemic? From Zoom fatigue and interminable NHS waiting lists to work burnout and debilitating loneliness, we all have plenty of reasons to feel weak right now. Often, our instinct is to hide that weakness.
But what if we embraced our human limitations and disabilities, even our sickness and poor mental health, and leaned into God? In a world addicted to progress and strength, acknowledging how far we fall short is far more impactful than pretending to be perfect.
We need a better conversation about how to follow Jesus when times are tough – wise to the truth that our best witness in this post-pandemic world is not our strength, but instead a humble embrace of our weakness. Three theologians discuss.
